I arrived home from Morocco at 12:30 a.m. this morning. Excited to be home but sad to be separated from my new friends.
The students of Assaada High School were thrilled to receive the letters from our students and couldn't wait to learn more about them. The response was overwhelming and I think I received more letters in return than I brought over. Many of the letters I received included drawings and small gifts, WhatsApp numbers, Facebook contacts, Instagram and many other ways to get in touch. The students are hungry for communication, to learn about America, and to share themselves with America.
The Letter Volley relates to my Spanish because instead of letters i have the Spanish textbook which gives me information and includes pictures like the letters. It relates to me because i plan to visit to Spain one day to increase my cultural knowledge like the letters did for Mrs. Landry. Also help me be more friendly to people like we are learning in Spanish class right now.

ReplyDeleteThrough Spanish class, I am able to better my communication skill and learn about different cultures. By learning Spanish, I hope that when I travel to different Spanish speaking countries I will be able to communicate and become more cultured due to my ability to do so.
ReplyDeleteI remember writing a letter. Hopefully, I'll get one back and learn more about Morocco. I'm interested in learning how countries are different compared to America. In Spanish class, I learned that Spanish countries write the date differently than we do.
ReplyDeleteThis seemed like a similar situation when I moved elementary schools or transitioned from 6th grade to middle school. Leaving all of your friends and having to make new ones was something that I had to do. When I first moved elementary schools, technology was not something that was at our hand, so we sent letters to each other along with small gifts.

ReplyDeleteThe fact that most of the letters from Morocco were trying to get in touch is overwhelming. They want to learn about the U.S. and learn about our culture, what we do, how we eat, what we wear. They want to learn about us. To me, that's shocking. It's like being a rock star on stage for the first time. They all want to hear what you have to say and want to know what kind of person you are. I feel like our interest in the people of Assada Highschool pales in comparison to their interest in us.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see that the people there want to communicate so badly. In our Spanish class, we have lots of practice communicating with each other. It would be really cool if we could communicate with people from another country.
ReplyDeleteI feel like that is such an accomplishing feeling when you get a letter from outside your native country! The kids probably felt happy to receive letters from people new people that have learned to become friends with.

ReplyDeleteThe very fact that the students at Assaada High School in Morocco wanted to get in touch so badly is astonishing. It is wonderful to get the opportunity to communicate with other people not only in your native country, but in other countries across the world. This also will help them to learn about outside countries like the United States, which is very similar to what we are doing in Spanish class. In my Spanish class, we are also communicating with other people in the class through writing and speaking, something that will help us in communicating with other people in the world.
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that students wanted to write letter. It isn't appreciated as much today how much passion is put into letters. I know for me, writing letters is a burden, but it shows you put time and thought into something rather than just messaging the person a meaningless text. This can relate to Spanish because we learned about how to talk and communicate basic phrase which you could use to write a letter to a Spanish speaking country.
